The weather outside is still pretty spooky, but we’re coming in warm with some makeup to get rid of the cold. Fashion Week has returned for the Spring/Summer 2022 season, and with it many makeup inspirations. We sorely missed the backstage hustle and bustle, the latest innovations from our favorite designers and, above all, the beauty looks. As a reminder, this season, the creators are looking at the joy of being outside again. From smudged pops of color on lids to glowing skin and rosy cheeks, runways come alive with makeup looks from the best brands and MUAs in the business. Ahead, the biggest spring 2022 makeup trends from the runways, plus some bonus predictions of what’s to come, straight from the pros.
golden hour glow
For the Collina Strada garden exhibit, makeup artist Allie Smith wanted to recreate the sun-kissed glow that only comes from being outdoors. Smith worked with MAC to illuminate the skin all over, adding pops of glitter and color to the high points of the ears and hands. “Inspired by a fun day outside in a fairy garden,” Smith says. “Damp, sun-kissed skin and dazzling colors and textures adorning the ears and hands.”

Euphoria The eyes
There is no doubt that Euphoria made a huge mark on eye makeup. We can also expect to see a lot more inspiration come to life as the weather gets warmer. “We’ll see a lot of fashionable and fun bold looks inspired by the iconic show,” says makeup artist Melissa Hurkman. Particularly bold graphic linings. “We will see many creative ways to play with the liner, not only with the shapes but also with the colors.”

Two-tone lids
Sticking with the theme of bold eye makeup, Hurkman also predicts that painting each eye a different color will be a new way to use your shadow palettes. “Each eye has time to glow using a different bright color,” she says. “I created this look using green and purple.”

pink highlighter
“We’re removing reflective shimmer for a shimmery, dewy, skin-like highlight this spring,” Hurkman says. “It will play into the fresh makeup looks you’ll see a lot this year.” She says adding the rosy highlight at the end of your makeup application will make people think you just had a HydraFacial appointment. “Don’t worry, if you have a lot of shimmery highlighters, try using them as eyeshadow,” suggests Hurkman.

Soft sculpted eyebrows
“There’s a distance from densely drawn brows that had sharp lines,” says makeup artist Fiona Stiles. “Brows are gently filled in, adding fullness where needed, then brushed in for a wilder, wilder feel. I like to use the Kevyn Aucoin Brow Pen for lightly sculpted brows.

modern beginner
Jeremy Scott tapped NYFW beauty legend Kabuki to create MAC Cosmetics looks on Gigi Hadid, Precious Lee and Irina Shayk as they modeled pastel confections on the runway. “The collection is a witty juxtaposition of very ‘feminine’ garments made with nursery-like elements,” says Kabuki. “I was looking to strike a balance between innocence and sophistication with this makeup, a ‘beginner’ in other words.”

Jewel-toned eyes
To create the perfect canvas, lead makeup artist Diane Kendal prepped skin with 111Skin before using Jason Wu’s eponymous beauty brand to create bold red lips and jewel-toned eyes. “We wanted to celebrate freedom and hope by adding radiance and life to skin with JWB Hydrating and Nourishing Priming Oil, while using a sheer foundation for effortless skin,” says Kendal. “On the eyes, we had fun and used the new Jewel Stick on the lid with springy shades like grassy greens and jubilant pinks and purples, then topped it off with the everyday lip mask. “

Natural
To create Oscar de La Renta’s all-natural makeup, brand ambassador and product and content creator Sofia Tilbury (niece of makeup mogul Charlotte Tilbury) used romantic hues like pink and nude to enhance the unique beauty of each model. “It was really important to Laura and Fernando that we celebrated each model’s individuality,” says Tilbury. “Oscar de la Renta’s latest collection was captured with NYC as the backdrop, and we enhanced each model’s natural beauty with glowing, internally-lit skin using Charlotte’s Magic Cream, a complexion Airbrush Flawless and custom lips.”
