A horse parades at the Chanel Haute Couture show in Paris

French fashion house Chanel upended convention by sending a horse down the catwalk during its Haute Couture show in Paris Tuesday.
The animal was ridden by Charlotte Casiraghi, a niece of Prince Albert of Monaco and a show jumper who is also a Chanel brand ambassador.
Dressed in a black tweed and sequin-embellished Chanel jacket, Casiraghi stepped out at the start of the show, galloping several times around a bridge designed to look like a horse training ring.
The rest of the models – this time on foot – then walked out onto the catwalk.

The show, at the Grand Palais Ephémère, an exhibition and performance space in Paris, was designed by Virginie Viard, who became artistic director of Chanel in 2019 following the death of haute couture icon Karl Lagerfeld.
