Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu pay heartfelt tribute to ‘shooter Dadi’ Chandro Tomar

The world’s oldest sniper, Chandro Tomar, died Friday after battling Covid-19. Popularly known as the “Shooter Dadi”, she died in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, after being hospitalized with respiratory problems. She was 89 years old.

In 2019, Bollywood filmmaker Tushar Hiranandani directed a biopic on her and her sister Prakashi Tomar titled Saand Ki Aankh. Bhumi Pednekar was trying out the role of Chandro Tomar while Taapsee Pannu played Prakashi Tomar.

Pednekar, who played Chandro on screen, is “devastated” by the news. But she also feels lucky to have gotten to know the country’s sniper up close. She wrote on Twitter: “Devastated by the news of Chandro Dadi’s disappearance. Looks like part of me is gone. She made her own rules and paved the way for many girls to find their dream. His legacy will live on in them. Condolences to the family. I’m lucky to know and be his #ChandroTomar #ShooterDadi. “

In a statement, Bhumi recalled how the “Shooter Dadi” taught him so much about life. She said, “She had a beautiful brotherhood and a beautiful partnership with Prakashi dadi and together they have left an impact on so many lives. I feel so lucky to have played her character, to have had the chance to learn more about her life and she left a very large part of herself with me. I know there will be many who will mourn his death today. But she always said “tann buddha hota hai, mann buddha nai hota”. I know in spirit that she will always be with us because her teachings are going to be with us. She will be sorely missed.

Taapsee also shared a photo with Chandro with a heartbroken emoji on Instagram. She wrote: “But I learned from you never to give up… Daadi will live forever in the hearts of many girls like me for whom she has been an inspiration.”
