Co-founders and sisters Nina and Gvantsa Macharashvili – Footwear News
Despite all the buzz around luxury shoe brand Mach & Mach, there has been little said about its founders, sisters Nina and Gvantsa Macharashvili. Unlike some famous shoe designers, the brand’s shimmering, crystal-arch-encrusted heels have mostly stood on their own as they’ve built a cult following over the past few years (even and especially during the pandemic).
That changed last week with the sisters’ New York debut, as Nordstrom celebrated the duo on March 17 with a cocktail party to celebrate the brand’s exclusive capsule collection with the retailer. In honor of the collection, Nordstrom has refurbished its Center Stage display area at its flagship on 57th Street in Manhattan, transforming the floor into a colorful world of party shoes, adorned with pink displays with rows of heels. brand with their signature. crystal embellished bows.
At the event, FN caught up with the Macharashvili sisters, who live and work in Tbilisi, Georgia, to learn more about how they create their sparkly heels together.
FN: Congratulations on the new collection.
Gvantsa: We are beyond excited to come here and partner with Nordstrom as this is like our first and biggest project in New York and it is our biggest exclusive collection to date. There are also jewelry and bags.
FN: How was your signature crystal bow born?
Nina: We were a brand that worked on accessories first. It was like an old story but new.
Gvantsa: Shoes are our greatest passion. We love working on beautiful shoes.
FN: Have you always liked shiny things?
Gvantsa: We’ve always loved shiny things. Mach & Mach is about that which is shiny, scintillating. We’ve always loved crystallized things, even growing up. It’s kind of our DNA.
FN: You have just launched your fall 21 collection. What’s new for the season?
Gvantsa: We have created platforms this season, which is new for us, we are very proud of it. And there are boots.
FN: What is your age difference as sisters?
Nina: Four years. I am the oldest.
FN: Do you sometimes disagree on designs or are you always in tune?
Nina: Never! We feel things with each other.
Gvantsa: We are very different personalities, but we have this connection in the work. We like to work, we like what we do. Work is what connects us.
Nina: I can’t work without it. It’s a difference of four years, but sometimes it feels like twins!
