Dia Mirza on the challenges she faced during pregnancy: “Sudden appendectomy, severe bacterial infection”
With grace, poise and dignity, actress Dia Mirza has managed to overcome the countless curves that life has thrown at her. Today she announced the news of her prematurely born son Avyaan Azaad Rekhi. She revealed he was born on May 14 and has been in neonatal intensive care since then.
It was clearly not an easy time for her, as she had undergone an appendectomy during her pregnancy, followed by a serious bacterial infection. “A sudden appendectomy during my pregnancy and a subsequent very serious bacterial infection could have resulted in sepsis and could be fatal. Fortunately, the care and timely intervention of our doctor ensured the safe birth of our baby via emergency cesarean section, ”Dia wrote.
Still, this isn’t the first time Dia Mirza has exuded such quiet dignity during a hectic phase.
In 2019, she announced her split from Sahil Sangha, after being together for 11 years. The two issued a joint statement saying they will continue to be friends and respect each other.

Dia wrote: “After 11 years of sharing our lives and being together, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways. We remain friends and will continue to be there for each other with love and respect. Although our travels may take us on different paths, we are always grateful for the bond we share with one another. Still, she made it clear that they wouldn’t comment further, making it clear that there would be no ugliness or gossip.
In February 2021, she married Vaibhav Rekhi after more than a year with him.
The ceremony was intimate and conducted by a female priest. Dia shared a photo on her social media and thanked her: “Thank you Sheela Atta for organizing our wedding ceremony. So proud that together we can #RiseUp #GenerationEquality. The ceremony was also environmentally friendly and there was no use of plastic, as Dia pointed out.
After the wedding, the couple went out to meet the photographers who had been waiting for hours and handed them candy.
However, social media comes with the unwelcome baggage of trolls. As other celebrities strike back at their vitriol, Dia Mirza continues to maintain a dignified position. When she faced a lot of venom for announcing her pregnancy in April, she had a response. After being asked why she didn’t make the announcement and shattering stereotypes like she did with a female priest celebrating her wedding, she replied that they didn’t get married because ‘they were going to have a baby together.
“Interesting question. First, we didn’t get married because we had a baby together. We were already getting married because we wanted to spend our life together. We found out that we were going to have a baby while we were preparing for our wedding. This wedding. is therefore not the result of a pregnancy. We have not announced the pregnancy until we know it is safe (medical reasons). This is the happiest news of my life. J “Have waited many years for this to happen. I wouldn’t hide it for any reason other than medical,” she wrote.
Dia Mirza may be polite and dignified, but she still gets her point across.
