Dia Mirza responds to the troll who questioned the timing of her pregnancy announcement: ‘We didn’t get married because we had a baby together’
“There should never be any shame attached to this beautiful trip.” Actor and activist Dia Mirza took to social media to respond to a person who questioned the timing of her pregnancy announcement, saying that as women, ‘we must always exercise our choice ”.
Dia faced a lot of trolls when she announced her pregnancy last week after her wedding in February. When asked why the actor couldn’t announce his pregnancy before marriage and break stereotypes like he did with a female priest officiating at his wedding, the actor wrote in response, “Interesting question. First, we didn’t get married because we had a baby together. We were already getting married because we wanted to spend our life together. We found out that we were going to have a baby while we were planning our wedding. So this marriage is not the result of pregnancy. We did not announce the pregnancy before knowing its safety (medical reasons). This is the happiest news of my life. I have waited for many years for this to happen. In no case would I hide it for any reason other than medical.
Dia also explained why she chose to take to social media. “Respond to this only because: 1) Having a child is a beautiful gift of life 2) There should never be any shame attached to this beautiful journey 3) As women we should always exercise our choice 4) Whether we choose to be single and parents with a child or to be in a marriage is after all our choice. 5) As a society we need to stereotype our idea of what is right and wrong, instead of training ourselves to ask what is right and wrong.
The 39-year-old married Vaibhav Rekhi in February. On Thursday, she shared a photo clicked by her husband in the Maldives and wrote: “Happy to be… One with Mother Earth… One with the Life Force which is the beginning of all… Of all stories. Lullabies. Songs. New saplings. And the blossoming of hope. Happy to rock this purest of all dreams in my womb.
