When it comes to household names in fashion, the late Karl Lagerfeld is about as close to the top as he gets. With long-standing tenures at the helm of Chanel and her own eponymous brand, the iconic designer is revered for her clean, avant-garde level of sophistication that is instantly recognizable. In an effort to extend Lagerfeld’s legacy – beyond the signature black and white palette – his eponymous brand has teamed up with Nigerian designer Kenneth Ize for an exclusive Spring / Summer 2021 capsule, culminating with the best of two brands.
The luxury house’s style advisor, Carine Roitfeld, called on Ize, a 2019 LVMH Prize finalist, to create a balanced collection that marries the brand’s clean European flair with Nigerian-inspired prints crafted using techniques traditional, in homage to the west of Ize. African roots. The colors of the collaboration refer to the aso oke fabric, hand-woven by the Yoruba people. Filled with gender-less clothing, colorful handbags and an assortment of pearl jewelry, the line also includes a pair of intricately woven platform sandals that are a game-changer in summer.
