Hall of Fame Member Michael Jordan wears Hall of Fame Watch in Hall of Fame
welcome to Watches of the week, where we’ll follow the rarest, craziest and most coveted watches spotted by celebrities.
Michael Jordan, as we have written, is one of the most aggressively eclectic watch collectors we have. With his bootcut jeans and V-neck t-shirts, he’s best known for rocking the futuristic designs of Urwerk, Roger Dubuis and Ulysse Nardin. These watches push the pedal to the metal with bizarre complications, skeleton dials and shapes never seen before. For the NBA Hall of Fame induction ceremony last weekend, MJ chose something a little more conservative: a classic Rolex Sky-Dweller. The piece is not, however, a complete deviation from entirely modern Jordan tastes. The Sky-Dweller is the updated version of Rolex on its GMT-Master II. Also this week, Courtside Drake is back, just like Rachel Green!
Micheal Jordan’s Rolex Sky-Dweller
When we say the Sky-Dweller is modern, we mean it. By Rolex standards, he’s practically a newborn. The watch was first introduced in 2012, and at the time, it was the first entirely new Rolex model to arrive in 20 years. While the GMT-Master was designed for pilots – the first parts went to Pan-Am ones – the Sky-Dweller, which was originally released in a higher price point, looks more like a watch for pilots. professional aviators. So, yes, I would say this is a suitable watch for Michael Jordan.
Drake’s Patek Philippe Nautilus
Is it strange that I get moved that Drake appears on the field during NBA games wearing a fabulous watch? Immediately after LeBron James punched a lopsided three to seal the Lakers’ victory over the Golden State Warriors, the broadcast was cut to Drake and Michael B. Jordan geeking on the shot. On Drake’s wrist was the watch we last saw him wearing at the start of the pandemic: a rare Nautilus super-duper designed for the model’s 40th anniversary.
Rolex Day-Date by Jennifer Aniston
Well Jennifer Aniston’s life is no joke, she’s not broke and she has the watch to prove it. In the trailer for the next one Friends reunion, Aniston wears a Rolex Day-Date. Great watch, obviously. But I really got my attention to the way she wore it on the sleeve of her shirt. What style! What a panache! Menswear icon (and former Fiat CEO) Gianni Agnelli wore his watch this way, and it looks great on Aniston, too.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak by Jordan Clarkson
Jordan Clarkson is the favorite for the NBA’s sixth man of the year award, but he is also expected to fight for best improved dresser. While keeping the spirit of Tony Soprano alive this week, Clarkson wore the iconic Royal Oak. What’s different about Clarkson is that while almost everyone just got the watch on the standard built-in strap, it went with the more dressy leather strap.
Richard Mille RM 67-01 by Rhuigi Villaseñor
Rhude designer Rhuigi Villaseñor is a certified watch nut: on social networks he shows a deep rotation of Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks, Patek Philippe Nautiluses and diamond-rimmed chronographs, and personalized Day-Dates lacquered dial personalized with the name of his mark on it. The watches are all part of the carefully organized world of Villaseñor: the life of Villaseñor, one might say, is a film. And the perfect accessory to fit into this world is a Richard Mille watch. This week Villaseñor released their RM 67-01, an ultra-thin model that still contains Richard Mille’s famous complex mechanics.
