Kangana’s look in the Thailaivi trailer was appreciated. About stepping into his character, the actor said at a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday: “I never thought there were any similarities between us. When I met Vijay sir, and we felt we were poles apart. My frame is thin, I have angular jawbones and cheekbones. We went to America and did a lot of testing and Vijay sir was not impressed with any of the testing (appearance). I was at that time researching her and watching her films. So, at a young age, I started to gain weight because she was curvaceous and beautiful. You won’t believe it’s so surprising that I started to look exactly like Jaya Maa. It was another strange thing that I experienced. It was either his blessing or a desire for this movie to come true. I was just a psychic.
Kangana Ranaut’s Thailaivi, directed by AL Vijay and written by acclaimed writer KV Vijayendra Prasad, hits theaters on April 23.
