Kate Middleton and Prince William visit St. Andrews in 2021, where they fell in love
Barely a month after celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary, Kate Middleton and Prince William returned to St. Andrews, their university and the place where they met and fell in love. On campus, the couple listened to the students in their majors, geography and art history, speak of how they coped with the coronavirus pandemic. Kate wore a Holland Cooper blazer, Veja sneakers, an Erdem striped sweater and skinny jeans.
Kate and William met in 2001 when they were signed up. The future Duchess of Cambridge went to great lengths to get in William’s path. “Kate was very strategic”, The crown historian Robert Lacey told ELLE.com in November. “She gave up her place at one of Britain’s biggest universities, Edinburgh, and moved to another. [St. Andrews] which probably did not have the same academic standard. She had been to Edinburgh before to sort her apartment, but she changed universities and changed her art history classes because it was William’s. She has delayed her own education for a year and even takes the risk of not entering St. Andrews.
Kate finally conquered William in 2002 after walking in a see-through dress during a college fashion show. “She’s here and about to walk down the runway at the fashion show, and she’s taking off an extra layer of clothes,” Lacey recalls. “Here is a very strategic woman who knows what she wants and who has it.”
That said, Kate waited nine years for William to propose, and they were on and off at times. “Kate finally came to terms with the idea that she would have to do a long apprenticeship,” recalls Lacey. “William didn’t want to get married until he was 30 years old. She waited nine years, but eventually she got it at 28, so there’s another strategic achievement on her part – and she turns out to be the ideal heir to the throne. “
