Lakmé Fashion Week 2022: Falguni designers Shane Peacock say return to the catwalk is a “celebration of fashion”

Designer duo Ace Falguni Shane Peacock are a force to be reckoned with in the Indian fashion industry. Popular for their groundbreaking designs and focus on continuous innovation, they didn’t disappoint with their return to a physical show after a two-year lull.

FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week 2022 the extravagant finale witnessed an intergalactic expedition, Falguni Shane Peacock’s latest offering in high fashion. A futuristic and flamboyant collection, aptly named ‘Earthbound’, it was inspired by Shane’s avid interest in the possibility of life on other planets.

Forward-looking silhouettes studded with crystals, domed diamonds, faceted and rounded pearls of bold eye makeup created by makeup artist Daniel Bauer ensured heavy attention throughout the night with Bollywood actor Ananya Panday sashaying as the show-stopper.

Advertisement caught up with the creators as they prepared to prepare for their lavish return to the limelight. Read on for their take on how the pandemic has changed the fashion industry, the inspiration behind the recent collection, the collaboration with Ananya Panday and much more.

You recently got back on the physical track for the first time since the pandemic, how are you feeling?

Falguni: The first thought that came to mind when I heard we were going to return to physical format was that we were going to return to backstage buzz and pre-show craziness.

What were the main inspirations behind the ‘Earthbound’ collection?


Falguni: The collection is intergalactic currents can be attributed to the fact that Shane always dreamed of a life on other planets in his head. With “Earthbound”, we decided to talk more about their fascination with the final frontier, setting the stage for an imaginary return to the planet after five decades of finding a home elsewhere.

Shane: We have always been intrigued by space and somewhere down the line we found ourselves adding galactic elements to our work. After 50 years of occupying other planets, it is likely that he developed some kind of uniform while living in a colony. But when you return to earth, you will celebrate colors and textures in all their glory.

Tell us about the main styles, fabrics and techniques used in the collection.

Shane: Forward-looking silhouettes splashed with crystals, domed diamonds and faceted pearls, and complemented by fashion-forward eye makeup.

Falguni: The Lakmé Absolute Explore eye pencil shades work so well with the colors in our collection – it’s a riot of space grays and bold purples, pinks and blues.

The star of your collection was Ananya Panday. Tell us about your work with her.

We always knew that we wanted something unusual for Ananya because Gen Z loves their drama. This works in our favor because we have always been a brand that adds a little something extra to your look.

How was working with make-up artist Daniel Bauer? Were the final looks collaborative in nature?

For Daniel, the theme and shades of the Lakme Absolute Explore Eye collection and collection meant free rein to experiment with the season’s trend statement. There is no greater creative platform for make-up artists or greater fashion show than the Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale. This show will be the ultimate celebration where we’ll explore every spunky, bold, bright, and bling-bling makeup look possible.

Do you plan to do more regular physical shows in the future?

the track has always been a designer’s creative playground. It’s something we’ve really missed for the past two years during lockdown. Returning to the catwalk is a celebration of fashion, excitement and designer feel.

How do you think the pandemic has affected the fashion industry around the world?

Falguni: I feel like we have come out of a dark period in life that has affected a lot of people not only mentally and physically but also emotionally. It also slowed us down and for the first time we had the luxury of having time and planning for the next 5 years in mind. It’s not something you can do on a daily basis. As the pandemic comes to an end, we want to celebrate life in its truest form in color again and this is going to be for some time.

Shane: “The post-pandemic luxury consumer is looking to get noticed,” hinting at a bigger rise in revenge dressing as we seek to make up for missed dressing opportunities in the past two years.

What future for Falguni Shane Peacock?

All that free time allowed us to sit down together and dive deep into what we should be doing in the next five years, what to focus on, what we need to do. There’s a lot more to come.
