Message in jacket: Jill Biden offers ‘love’ on UK trip

Jill Biden sends a sartorial message of “love” as she accompanies her husband, President Joe Biden, abroad.

The first lady wore a black jacket with the word ‘love’ underlined on the back in silver beads as she and the President met with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife on Thursday. She wore the same jacket over two years ago to kick off Biden’s presidential campaign.

“We bring love to America,” she told reporters, explaining her fashion choice.

“This is a world conference, and we are trying to bring unity across the world, and I think there is a need right now, for people to feel a sense of oneness from all countries. and feel a sense of hope after this pandemic year. “

Biden is known for her sartorial choices, often wearing bright pastels or eye-catching designs for her outings on behalf of the Biden administration. She is rarely seen without a low heel or stiletto heel boot, adding height to her petite figure.

And this isn’t the first time she’s sent a direct message with her clothes: On a country trip to Iowa late last year, Biden wore black skinny jeans with the word ” VOTE ”on each calf.

Biden’s jacket and pants contrast with the last first lady to deliver a message with her clothes: Melania Trump wore a jacket that read “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” during a trip to a detention center for migrant children in 2018. She was wearing a different jacket at the shelter.

The first lady is accompanying her husband on the UK part of his trip abroad, where she will participate in spouses activities at the Group of Seven summit and a few events focused on veterans and their families. She joined Johnson’s wife Carrie Johnson for tea on Thursday.

This is Biden’s first overseas visit as president. Along with his participation in the G-7 summit and a NATO summit in Brussels, he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Biden said her husband had “studied for weeks” for the trip and joked that he was “too prepared.”

“Joe loves foreign policy. This is her strong point, ”she said.

The Bidens are due to meet Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday at Windsor Castle. The first lady told reporters “this is an exciting part of the visit for us”.
