Moschino did a musical for Resort 2022
Sound the alarm: Katy Perry has been robbed.
Her massive Moschino cake was last seen at the 2019 Met Gala, but she has just resurfaced on fashion legend Karen Elson, still sporting a stain of makeup from Celine Dion, who rubbed off on a red carpet. *kiss Kiss.*
“I should probably tell Katy we’re using her burger, huh?” Laughs designer Jeremy Scott from Los Angeles. “I kept it in reserve, but when it came time to film the dinner scene for this project, I thought, ‘Well, we to have To see her.’ So I took it out.
“This Project” he refers to is Moschino’s new resort collection, which debuts today with a mini-music titled Lightning it is in equal parts Sing in the rain and Don’t tell mom the babysitter is dead. Elson twirls around in the first part of the film as a restaurant waitress, sliding fries to models like Dilone and Stella Maxwell until—Whistling! Snap! –a jukebox hit and she swirls through a fantastic sequence of couture ice cream dresses, flash pinball accessories and Dick Tracy’s fedoraion it would be funny if it weren’t so perfect. (Thanks, masters of the Moschino workshop.)
“Even when I’m doing a show, I still think of my shows like movies,” Scott says. “Woman is a character, and where would that character go?” What would she do and what would she do never do? And maybe there’s no dialogue, he said, shrugging his shoulders. “But fashion is one language, and it speaks to so many people!

Elson, of course, is fluent in this language. Scott insisted that she was “the only one” who could achieve the intersection between the track and the retro vibes of Mitzi Gaynor. “We were very, very close in the late 90s,” says Scott. “Then on the set of [Moschino’s last fashion film] Jungle red, I started to play this idea in my head – this trope of the bored waitress, this fabulous moment in New York like in In the heights or West Side Story when everyone’s just dancing, dancing, dancing… I didn’t think anyone else was more perfect than her. So I texted her and held my breath and freaked out. And then I panicked again when she said yes! … She was utter perfection – she even came over to pose suggesting poses she used to do for Avedon. Honestly, with his performance, I couldn’t be more proud.
Scott paired Elson with veteran choreographer Denna Thomsen, who has worked on everything from Birds of prey at Booksmart and Euphoria, and transformed the infamous burger costume into a tap dance costume. He also upped the ante color and vibrant sex appeal of the collection, knowing full well that neutrals and soft, puffy shapes were flooding the flows of other fashion brands. “The Moschino woman never stopped dressing,” Scott says. “Because it’s so much more fun to be dressed up, to be freakish with shiny clothes and a little mischievousness. We want to be players. We want to have fun together right now, and we want to have so much fun and look fantastic doing it. It’s like, why not? He laughs, raising his arms. “Life is too short to wear boring clothes.”
Life is also too short to do not making big strides, which is why Scott is hinting that while he will return to an IRL podium in September (in New York!), he is yet to complete his cinematic visions. “I can’t wait to have parades again,” says Scott. “But I don’t want to give up or give up on this new love. I’m still going to make movies, okay? So let’s see where this goes.
As for Mrs. Perry’s burger, he go back to the safe, at least until another style scheme calls out “lights, camera, fashion.”
