Remo D’Souza’s brother-in-law dies by suicide, parents say he suffered from depression
Jason Savio Watkins, brother-in-law of choreographer and director Remo D’Souza, is believed to have died by suicide at his Mumbai residence at Yamuna Nagar in Andheri (west) for unknown reasons. Oshiwara police station was notified of the death around noon Thursday after a call to the main control room. Police confirmed Watkins, 48, hanged himself but no suicide note was found.
He was rushed to Cooper Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
His family members, including his stepfather and 74-year-old sister, reportedly told police he had suffered from depression for three years after his mother Daina died.
Family members added that Watkins was reportedly addicted to cannabis.
The family has no complaints against anyone, police said. According to preliminary investigations, as of late Watkins has not been doing well and had health issues which may have caused him to take the extreme step. Police said on the face of it there does not appear to be any foul play.
A case of accidental death was recorded and the body was sent to a nearby government hospital for an autopsy.
D’Souza’s wife, Lizelle, took to Instagram to share some photos of her brother. In one photo, Lizelle wrote, “Why? How can you do this to me? I will never forgive you. Lizelle also shared a childhood photo of the two.
This is a developing story. More details expected.
