No one does it like Rick Owens, the American creator who has drawn legions of fans loyal to his evil black sensibility. Over the years he has lent that gothic touch to iconic brands like Birkenstock, Adidas, Champion and countless others. Now, Owens has teamed up with Dr. Martens for a shoe collection that doesn’t lack the designer’s signature bluster.
The newly launched partnership – it’s the second drop – is the first time these two iconic names, partners in dressing stylish weirdos for decades, have come together. The first is Owens’ latest take on the Dr. Martens 1460 Bex boot, featuring pentagram lacing (a pattern on his main shoes) and dark gray glam suede. Not to mention that it sits on top of the impactful ‘Bex’ sole, which sits between the brand’s classic air-cushioned outsole and full-volume platform sole, making it a slightly eccentric stomper that you can always do. wear without fear of totally rocking. .
Next is the cobbler’s iconic 3-eyelet shoe, which is amplified with a similar vibe: the sole is a bit thicker than usual and finished with an unconventional double-welt switch.
And last, but not least, is Owens’ swashbuckling version of the gladiator-inspired Gryphon sandal, with the addition of an extra elongated leather strap for an even more dramatic touch. (Even goths wear sandals in the summer.)
Ultimately, the three-part collaboration seems to be one for the books. Rick Owens is fearless when it comes to shoes – last year he sent stylish boots to his catwalk, with heels high enough to make Chelsea boots blush. This collection isn’t as avant-garde as these (although pentagram lacing is plentiful), but it still packs its brutalist punch. Enjoy.
