See Zendaya in Beyoncé’s 2003 Versace dress at the 2021 BET Awards
Law Roach and Zendaya served up a great fashion moment and a Tribute to Beyoncé at last night’s BET Awards, with Roach dressing the Euphoria actress in a 2003 Versace dress. It wasn’t just any Versace dress: it was the same purple and lime cutout look Beyoncé wore to the 2003 BET Awards where she first performed “Crazy in Love”. Bey wore a shorter version of the dress while Zendaya chose a longer one.
Zendaya accessorized with Stuart Weitzman shoes and Bulgari yellow diamonds. “Pay homage to Queen Beyoncé wearing @versace SS2003 ….. get a stylist with an ARCHIVE !!!!” Roach captioned his first Instagram of Zendaya in the look.
Zendaya dedicated three Instagram grid posts to the outfit. “Crazy in love,” she captioned the first, alluding to Beyoncé. Roach also shared a post with footage of Beyoncé performing “Crazy in Love” as well as a video of the long and cropped versions of the dress making its Spring / Summer 2003 Versace runway debut. “It was just…” he captioned it.

In February, Roach spoke to ELLE.com about what it was like to dress Zendaya for a red carpet rather than dressing her for her Netflix movie. Malcom & Marie. “I think there are similarities. It’s still Zendaya’s body. It’s still Zendaya’s physique, which is magnificent, ”he began. “When we do things together, we always create a story or a character. There must be a story behind why the clothes are chosen. Who is she at this time? It’s always been my job to create this story, to bring the pieces to the story. Then she takes them and becomes who she is and evokes the emotion that we have decided. I also put this in the design for Mary.“
