Steve Harvey accessorized his Balenciaga pajamas from head to toe with a portable cigar case

In the series of children’s computer games Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?, in which the objective is to hunt down the titular globetrotting spy, you can always spot Carmen by her scarlet trench coat and matching wide-brimmed hat. Nowadays, if we applied the same principle to a proverbial game of Where in the world is Steve Harvey?you could spot the perennial TV personality – and trendy style icon – by a number of her outrageously “fly ’til I die” ensembles.

These ensembles are the creations of her stylist Elly Karamoh, who has spent the past few years gently but firmly guiding Harvey’s wardrobe of baggy ’90s suits into the Instagram era. (It helps that they met through Steve’s wife, Marjorie Harvey, whom Karamoh also does from time to time.) And in this case, that may mean revisiting the 2020s revival of the baggy suit trend from the 20s. 90 as a carefully tailored set. of silky Balenciaga pajamas with a logo print.

“When I do Mr. Harvey’s hair,” Karamoh writes via email, “I always think of the range.” Last month, when Harvey was recording Celebrity family feud, Karamoh dressed him in the vibrant tailored suits and ties he’s been turning heads for on the ‘gram, so for his trip to Dubai, where he’s in town for the postponed 2020 World Expo, they wanted to opt for something a little different. He had the oversized pajama pants tapered from the waist “to create a slight bell-like appeal”, which flared out over a pair of Balenciaga double B leather mules.

This isn’t Steve’s first foray into the Demnaverse. Last month, he posed for the cover of Paper magazine wearing a custom Balenciaga couture cape – the size of a duvet cover and a shade you might even call…Carmen Sandiego red. Karamoh designed the look as a tribute to the late André Leon Talley, the pioneer of cheerful, capital-F, larger-than-life menswear. As Harvey told GQ in October, “When you’re a game show host and a talk show host, [fashion] is limited because you’re only talking about Central America. And I was afraid of shocking them too much,” to which Karamoh replied, “Meanwhile, I’m on the other side, ready for the shock value. Visiting Demna in the house that Cristóbal Balenciaga built is definitely one way to go about it.

“For Dubai, I really wanted to occupy a new space for its style,” says Karamoh. “My intention for this Balenciaga ready-to-wear look was for Mr. Harvey to evoke this urban yet very sophisticated feel.”

Plus, we can’t ignore the look’s crucial accessory (other than Steve’s busy businessman phone in his ear): “The Dior Rimowa mini suitcase is one of his favorite accessories to wear now. He doesn’t go anywhere without his cigars.

So in this week’s game we have: Steve Harvey in Dubai wearing Balenciaga head to toe. Case closed. (However, probably unlike Carmen, Steve betrayed himself by captioning his Instagram photo with “Hello DUBAI”. Dressing like an international mystery man doesn’t mean you have to act like one.)
