The Brooklyn Vintage Emporium where all your denim dreams come true

Like snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef or dropping acid for the first time, diving head first into the dizzyingly large world of vintage clothing can be a bit daunting. Having a competent sherpa helps to keep you stable and pointed in the right direction. And as far as we’re concerned, you’d be hard pressed to find a better vintage guru than Raggedy Threads founder Jaime Wong.

Over two decades ago, Wong began spinning the grails back at Los Angeles’ legendary Rose Bowl flea market, before opening his own stand-alone boutique in downtown Los Angeles in 2002. In 2016, she cut the ribbon on a second Raggedy Threads outpost in Williamsburg, and it’s been a neighborhood staple ever since – brimming with all the tantalizing ragged denim, perfectly washed out sweatshirts and pristine souvenir jackets you could dream of .

For the last episode of #ShopTalk on Instagram @GQRecommends, we asked Wong to show off all of his latest finds and rarest gems. Here are her picks for impeccable vintage garms worth investing in Pronto.

1940s pleated denim jacket

If you’re looking to go back to tough clothes in a vintage trucker jacket or real blue jeans, Raggedy Threads has you covered. “We have an incredible selection of denim, mostly from the 40s to the 80s,” Wong says.

50s Big Mac Patch Overalls

“People love to find products that they can mix with something they already own,” says Wong. “This beautiful pair of ’50s overalls has that patina, that wash – it’s already worn – and you can mix it up with your own favorite t-shirt.

Indianapolis Motor 60s Ring T-Shirt

Speaking of t-shirts: as you might expect, Raggedy Threads is also home to an epic collection of these. “They’re already pre-worn, soft, super comfortable,” says Wong.

Japan Sukajan 50s embroidered jacket

Favorite corner of Wong’s store? The wall covered with Japanese Sukajan—Memorial jackets – made after WWII for returning American soldiers. “They’re really, really cool – all in silk or satin, and beautifully embroidered with tigers and dragons.”

Heritage 9.1 Italy alpaca socks

Raggedy has a small selection of brand new products that fit perfectly with the boutique’s vintage primo items, including these Italian-made old-fashioned alpaca socks.
