‘The French Dispatch’ red carpet showcases every mood of 2021

Dressing has never been so rich in possibilities. We’re all still getting our muscle memory back – remembering which pants go with which shirt, etc. – or maybe just revamping a wardrobe overrun with sweatpants. Fortunately, two red carpet events in Cannes for Wes Anderson’s upcoming film The French dispatch come up with role models for all types of guys (and Tilda Swinton) to aspire to in 2021. The premiere and screening trotted stars like dummies to graze in an effort to perfect your own personal style.

Starting with the casual section: Timothée Chalamet came dressed as Gallery Bro, a man of impeccable taste who will not let you forget this fact. Loose pants had tucked into chunky Bottega Veneta Chelsea boots. He wore a t-shirt – still sold-out from film producer Elara Pictures – on a red carpet. But Chalamet, as always, is the proof that we contain multitudes. Just a day earlier, at the film’s screening, the actor’s silver Tom Ford suit was completely glamorous, a big portion of the decadent ’80s on the 2021 red carpet. In just two days, Chalamet alone can show you how to do formal and casual.

And we haven’t finished there. The French dispatch the first was full of signs pointing to the different directions menswear could take this year. The vibes were plentiful: Wes Anderson in his seersucker suit, knit tie and white moccasins gave us the perfect Southern Gentleman. It was difficult to reconcile the fact that he dressed in the same universe as Adrien Brody, who wore the most elegant black double-breasted suit with a peak lapel a day earlier at the screening, the debonair playboy sharpened to the man of the house of Anderson.
