Unrecognizable Lara Dutta as Indira Gandhi in BellBottom Trailer Calls Transformation a ‘Challenge’
When the BellBottom trailer launched on Tuesday, media invited to cover the event were lost trying to understand the character played by Lara Dutta in the 1980s spy thriller, titled by Akshay Kumar.
The trailer for the film, which opens with a warning, begins with the hijacking of an Indian plane and hostage-taking of all of its passengers in 1984.
In the following scene, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi consults with her advisers to find a possible way to deal with the crisis.
She is then referred to the character of Kumar, an agent of RAW, whose codename is “BellBottom”. The rest of the trailer focuses on the covert operation led by his character.
During the press conference after the trailer launched, Dutta was asked about the character she plays in the film.
The actor first asked members of the media to guess the character.
“If anyone is able to guess, then I will take all of their family members to the theater for free,” she promised.
After a lot of prompting, even from Kumar, Dutta said, “So you saw me in the trailer. I play Mrs. Indira Gandhi. It’s me.”
The former Miss Universe revealed that she got a call from the creators to play the former Prime Minister in the film.
“All it took was a call and they said Lara this movie was in the works and we’re casting for the role of Indira Gandhi. That was before I heard the script. ..
“But yes, of course there is a big responsibility when you portray someone who is an iconic figure like her,” she said.
It was a challenge to fully understand the character’s body language, added Dutta.
“As you all know, the movie is about a hijacking situation that occurred during her tenure. Considering the dramatic events that were unfolding, she was a very focused and drama-less person. therefore important to represent it in this form.
“I had a great time. There was a lot of homework and research that followed. But it was an opportunity of a lifetime I’m grateful for,” she added.
The lower end of the bell Also stars Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in key roles.
Kapoor, who plays the wife of Kumar’s character, said she was thrilled to be able to shoot a movie during the pandemic.
“My heart is full of gratitude. During the pandemic where so many people, including us, couldn’t get out of our homes, I was lucky enough to be able to work. I’m grateful he worked with me, ”she said.
During the launch of the trailer that followed appropriate social distancing behavior, Kumar urged fans to take the utmost precautions to protect themselves.
“It’s been two years since I watched anything on the big screen. We just watched things on TV. There is another joy in eating out. How long will you continue to have your home delivered? He asked, referring to films that have requested digital release following the cinema’s closure during the pandemic.
Now is the time for people to come to the movies, the actor said.
“But at the same time, take precautions and protect yourself. Follow the guidelines imposed by the government, so that this can continue and I hope the cinemas do not close again, ”Kumar added.
