Vir Das revisits the Namastey Terrace scene in London with Rishi Kapoor, Katrina Kaif: “It kicked off my film career”
Comedian Vir Das is known for many Netflix specials around the world, but he has had to develop a new set of tools to stay connected to his audiences since the pandemic hit in 2020. Vir has continued to produce new content via his social media and even had a Netflix special which he filmed via Zoom. True to the new ways of consuming comedy, the creator is now ready to launch a new show with Snapchat called The Most Epic Max Show.
In a conversation with indianexpress.com, Vir shared that since the lockdown hit he has found himself pulling out comedies from the confines of his home instead of theaters where he would see thousands of people at once. Vir hopes he “will find a different actor when I come back to the big stages.”
Speaking of The Most Epic Max Show, Vir explained, “The general soul of the show is that you don’t have to do epic things to get epic feelings. have to climb Kilimanjaro to feel epic when in fact making the perfect Maggi bowl can make you feel epic.
Instant noodles are great, but can they be EPIC? Find out in Episode 1 of the MOST EPIC MAX show only on Snapchat.https: //t.co/Homo8oyVA4@TheWeirdass #Snapchat #SnapchatIndia #MostEpicMaxShow pic.twitter.com/RyZGWbAPiH

“It’s promising to people that you’re epic for two reasons, you can pull off all of that and if not, I’ll fail so much trying to pull off this stuff that you’ll feel epic by the end of watching this stuff,” he said. said the actor of Go Goa Gone.
Thinking back to the epic moments in Vir’s life, one can’t forget his appearance at Namastey London. Vir was a stand-up comedian at the time and movie audiences weren’t very familiar with his work, but this scene with Rishi Kapoor and Katrina Kaif where he played a bride-to-be was applauded and years later, it is still remarkable. Speaking about the opportunity, Vir shared that director Vipul Shah attended one of his stand-up shows and asked him if he wanted to be in a movie and Vir just said yes and “suddenly I was on a terrace in Hyderabad “.
“I was Rishi Kapoor’s biggest fan, so filming with Rishi Kapoor was a dream come true for me. I watched Karz almost 100 times. If you remember, I was one of the three bride and groom, so I didn’t think it would have any impact, but it kind of kicked off my film career to a certain extent, I wasn’t planning on making movies or acting at the time. I was very happy to be just a comedian, but it kind of sent me on a new road, ”Vir recalls.
From unknowingly tripping over Hindi films to working with Hollywood director Judd Apatow, Vir’s film career has certainly come a long way. Apatow, known for projects like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Freaks and Geeks, Knocked Up, is a comedy legend in Hollywood and his upcoming directorial feature films Vir Das starring Karen Gillan, Keegan-Michael Key, Pedro Pascal , Fred Armisen among others.
When asked about the film, Vir didn’t reveal much about the film or his role, but shared that it was a great experience. “For me it was like going back to college. I had to go back to comedy college, which is above all a wonderful learning experience, ”he said.
