Yash Raj Films pledges to vaccinate Hindi film industry workers, begins phase one
Yash Raj Films (YRF), one of Bollywood’s main production houses, on Tuesday launched the first phase of its vaccination campaign with the aim of vaccinating at least 4,000 workers in the Hindi film industry. YRF has pledged to vaccinate 30,000 registered members of the Federation of Film Workers of West India (FWICE). FWICE has a total of 2.5 lakh of registered workers. The vaccination campaign is taking place in the YRF studios.
Akshaye Widhani, Senior Vice President of Yash Raj Films, said the team is excited to launch the campaign for FWICE members as it will help the industry rebound, which has been hit hard due to the coronavirus.
“This will allow day workers in our industry to return to work and provide financial stability for themselves and their families.” The campaign will need to be phased, given the large number of vaccines needed to cover the industry, ”Widhani said in a statement.
In the first phase of the campaign, YRF said it would be able to immunize at least 3,500 to 4,000 people.
The company run by Aditya Chopra had already vaccinated its employees in a previous campaign and had also started vaccinating team members in their films.
Several YRF productions including Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan, Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 and the period drama Maharaja were on the court before the Maharashtra government suspended filming in April.
Besides YRF, producer Sajid Nadiadwala organized a vaccination campaign for more than 500 employees and their families of his company Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
Last week, the Producers Guild of India (PGI), the association of Indian film, television and digital content producers, also started its vaccination campaign for its members and associated production teams.
The Indian Film Producers Association (IMPPA) and the Screenwriters Association (SWA) have also announced that they will organize free vaccination campaigns for their members.
