Ye (Kanye West) and Saint West make the case for father-son style
In December 1999, David and Victoria Beckham sported matching leather Versace outfits for their New Year’s Eve party, ushering in a new era of matchy-matchy style between spouses. Then Britney and JT sported triple denim suits at the 2001 American Music Awards. Two years ago, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry brought a certain elegance to the couple’s dressing paradigm, when the emerald dress first matched the lining of her husband’s suit.
Ye (formerly Kanye West) and ex-wife Kim Kardashian were no strangers to high-end couple dressing during their six-year marriage. There were the metallic looks they associated with the Met Gala in 2015, matched with moments of ripped jeans and this time they dressed in his Batman ensembles. Even in their short post-Kardashian divorce relationship, Ye and Uncut Gems Julia Fox doubled down on harmonized fits, favoring double denim looks, as well as matching high-shine leather.
Now, however, Ye is expanding the work and expanding into cross-generational wardrobe sharing. Attending an NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics in San Francisco, Ye and his son Saint wore matching outfits of Balenciaga leather jackets, black hoodies, gray jeans and black boots.
The move could be seen as a not-so-subtle, “if you can do it, I can do it too” dig at Kardashian, who has dressed up with daughter North West in matching outfits in the past. There were the Vetements dresses they both wore to attend one of Kanye West’s concerts in 2020 and the Moncler jackets the pair wore in Colorado in 2016. Plus, there are the team cuts which they carried on TikTok, which sent Ye into Instagram rant frenzies in recent weeks.
With Ye’s undeniable influence (despite the fact that he was briefly banned from the ‘gram), don’t be surprised to see more adults dressing up in due time. Drake and Adonis, we’re watching you.
