Yeah, fall sandals are a thing now
We are in this transitional territory from summer to fall where our thoughts turn to (wide) pants, jeans, hoodies and flannels. And… sandals? So late ? Two leading shoe collaborations launched this week show us the light. The first is from Dr. Martens and Suicoke, and the second is from Stüssy and Birkenstock – and either will ensure a fall wardrobe starts off on the right foot.
It was a massive year for Dr. Martens and collaborations. Perhaps best known for their punk-approved boots, the British brand has dropped some coveted kicks with everyone from goth-glam designer Rick Owens to cult brand Needles to streetwear titans Supreme. This latest collaboration with avant-garde shoe brand Suicoke brings the duo together precisely in the middle. The “DM Mura” sandal takes existing elements from both brands and crushes them together into a new, next-level silhouette. Suicoke’s “Mura” style is enhanced with Dr. Martens’ sturdy “Lorson” outsole, and the result is a sturdy sandal that looks and feels sturdy (and stylish) enough to accompany you through the fall months. (Especially if you live in a place where fall is more of a day on a calendar than a weather pattern.) These built-in rugged units are officially releasing tomorrow, August 28, and you can pick them up from Dr. Martens and some locations. retailers like END.
As for the Stüssy and Birkenstock, it’s sort of a reunion. Last year the two teamed up on a pair of corduroy clogs that were a certified smash. (The limited edition now sells for three times the original price in the aftermarket.) This time around, the Californian brand took inspiration from Birkenstock’s iconic “Boston” model, opting for high-quality suede in three easy-to-wear colors: bone, caramel and dusty pink – and printed with a tone-on-tone (and undeniably large) Stüssy logo on the side. All three colorways were discontinued earlier this afternoon, and just like their predecessors, they sold out within minutes flat. You can catch them right now on StockX, but hurry, those prices will almost certainly continue to rise.
Look, none of these shoes are likely to be your everyday shoe, especially since “quick” gets “cold as hell.” But between a list of everyday sneakers, boots, and loafers, there’s room for something a little awesome. Especially some DNA-mixing hybrids like these two collaborations, which fit in perfectly with the mid-temperatures and our own impending wardrobe change.
